Universal Pictures y Blumhouse han publicado el tráiler definitivo y un nuevo póster de Madre Siniestra.
La película de terror sobrenatural del director Rob Savage (Host, The Boogeyman) protagonizada por Jessica Chastain.
La historia se centra en una niña, Bela, que entabla una relación con una misteriosa entidad demoníaca que tiene exactamente el mismo aspecto que su propia madre (Chastain interpreta ambos papeles).
Madre Siniestra está basada en la novela de 2024 Incidents Around the House, de Josh Malerman, y cuenta también en su reparto con Jay Duplass, Arabella Olivia Clark, Dichen Lachman, Arian Moayed y Karen Allen.
El terror de Madre Siniestra
La ganadora del Óscar Jessica Chastain (It: Capítulo 2, Los ojos de Tammy Faye) interpreta un doble papel: la madre de Bela y “Other Mommy”, una manifestación de la entidad.
Jay Duplass (Transparent, Industry) interpreta a Daddo, el padre de Bela, y Arabella Olivia Clark (The Housemaid, La mano que mece la cuna) da vida a Bela.
El impresionante reparto secundario incluye a Dichen Lachman (Severance), nominada a premios de interpretación; Arian Moayed (Succession), nominado a los premios Emmy y Tony; y la leyenda de la pantalla Karen Allen (saga de Indiana Jones).
Madre Siniestra está dirigida por Rob Savage (Host, The Boogeyman) a partir de un guion de Nathan Elston —ganador del premio WGA y guionista de la exitosa y galardonada con el Emmy Succession—, basado en la novela Incidents Around the House, de Josh Malerman (Bird Box), éxito de ventas del New York Times.
La película está producida por James Wan (de las franquicias Saw, Insidious y The Conjuring) a través de Blumhouse Atomic Monster, y cuenta con la producción ejecutiva de Michael Clear, Judson Scott, Rob Savage, Josh Malerman y Ryan Lewis.

Una vez más es momento de regresas a Raccoon City en la pantalla grande con Resident Evil: Noche Cero, la nueva película dirigida por Zach Cregger, director de Barbarian y Weapons, quien apuesta por algo que los fans de los videojuegos conocemos muy bien: el survival horror.
Y debo decirlo desde el principio: la película entiende muy bien el concepto de Resident Evil.
La historia sigue a Bryan, un transportador de órganos que prácticamente funciona como un Uber de paquetes médicos y que al final de su turno recibe el encargo de llevar con urgencia un misterioso paquete hasta el Hospital General de Raccoon City.
El problema es que, obviamente, Raccoon City no es precisamente el mejor lugar para hacer una entrega.
No pasa mucho tiempo antes de que el terror se cruce en su camino, y con él algunas mutaciones que los fans de Resident Evil reconocerán, además de otras criaturas que buscan sorprender incluso a quienes ya conocen este universo.
Resident Evil: Noche Cero nos ofrece una premisa bastante sencilla: Un personaje que debe llegar del punto A al punto B sin muchas explicaciones. Zach Cregger aprovecha el recorrido para construir una experiencia que se siente muy cercana a género survival horror de los videojuegos.
Hay planos secuencia bastante tensos, sonidos que te hacen sospechar que algo está a punto de aparecer, momentos de exploración y hasta secuencias que utilizan el punto de vista del protagonista y su arma para hacernos sentir que somos nosotros quienes estamos caminando por Raccoon City.
Lo bueno de Resident Evil: Noche Cero
El diseño de los diferentes monstruos que no se limita solo a mostrar zombies genéricos y los efectos especiales cumplen con lo que esperaba de una película de Resident Evil. Además, hay una buena cantidad de gore sin caer en lo exagerado y algunos jump scares bastante efectivos que seguramente harán brincar a más de uno de su asiento.
También funciona bastante bien el humor de Cregger, que se ajusta bastante a los chistes cliché a los que estamos acostumbrados a ver en los videojuegos, aunque siento que hizo falta una mención al “Jill Sandwitch”. En esta ocasión se siente mucho más orgánico gracias al carisma del protagonista y a la manera en que la historia utiliza sus momentos de tensión para liberar un poco de presión.
La película consigue transmitir esa incertidumbre y sensación de peligro constante de los videojuegos: entrar a un lugar sin saber qué hay detrás de la siguiente puerta, escuchar un ruido extraño y preguntarte si realmente quieres seguir avanzando.
Lo malo de Resident Evil: Noche Cero
Quizá el mayor problema (o su mayor ventaja) es que Resident Evil: Noche Cero tiene una historia que podría haber funcionado incluso sin utilizar el nombre de Resident Evil.
Esto puede provocar sentimientos encontrados entre los fans más clavados de la franquicia, especialmente para quienes esperan una adaptación mucho más cercana a determinados juegos o personajes. Ya que aunque una vez más nos llevan a vivir el desastre de Raccoon City, en esta ocasión se introducen creaturas que no deberían estar en el incidente y se dejan fuera a algunas otras para sustituirlas por mutaciones originales.
Sin embargo, la originalidad y el desapegarse de lo considerado canon es una de sus mayores fortalezas: la película no intenta copiar exactamente un videojuego, sino capturar su sensación de jugarlo.
¿Vale la pena Resident Evil: Noche Cero?
Después de tantas adaptaciones de Resident Evil, unas más entretenidas que otras, se agradece que Noche Cero apueste nuevamente por el terror, la tensión y el survival horror, en lugar de convertir la franquicia únicamente en una película de acción que nos cuenta una y otra vez la misma historia de Raccon City.
Resident Evil: Noche Cero quizá no sea la adaptación fiel y calcada a lo que vivimos en los videojuegos que todos los fans estaban esperando, pero sí logra llevar a la pantalla grande algo muy importante: esa sensación de estar en peligro y no saber qué demonios se encuentra esperando en la siguiente habitación.
Si buscan una película de terror entretenida para este fin de semana, con criaturas, gore, jump scares y bastante tensión, Resident Evil: Noche Cero es una opción que vale la pena considerar.
La película llega a salas de cine en México gracias a Sony Pictures, incluyendo funciones en IMAX para quienes quieran vivir la experiencia con una mayor sensación de inmersión.

Crazy Taxi de SEGA tendrá película live-action en Netflix

Desde Crazy Taxi hasta Stranger Than Heaven y Sonic, SEGA se asocia con Netflix para tres nuevas y ambiciosas adaptaciones, incluida una película de live action basada en el querido clásico de arcade.
Netflix ha anunciado que se está preparando una película de acción real de Crazy Taxi para la plataforma de streaming.
Este proyecto, anunciado como parte de un acuerdo histórico entre la compañía y SEGA, es uno de los tres títulos de gran envergadura que conforman esta nueva lista de producciones.
Crazy Taxi será el primer proyecto en llegar; el guion correrá a cargo de Dan Gregor y Doug Mand, la pareja de escritores responsable del reinicio de The Naked Gun previsto para 2025.
Neal H. Moritz, Toby Ascher y Toru Nakahara —los productores visionarios detrás de la franquicia Sonic— participarán también en la producción.
Los proyectos de la unión de SEGA y Netflix
También está en camino una película live action de Stranger Than Heaven. Desarrollado por RGG Studio —creadores de la saga Like a Dragon/Yakuza—, el juego se ambienta en el Japón de principios del siglo XX y sigue la historia de un extranjero que lucha por ascender desde la indigencia hasta convertirse en un temido yakuza y, finalmente, en un magnate del entretenimiento.
Por su parte, Sonic contará con una nueva serie de animación —actualmente en desarrollo con Carlos Stevens y Toru Nakahara— que presentará a Sonic y a sus amigos como héroes dirigidos a un público infantil de mayor edad
Toru Nakahara, productor principal de SEGA, añadió: “Estamos encantados de continuar nuestra larga relación con SEGA y de dar vida a Crazy Taxi junto a nuestros socios de Netflix. “
Estos juegos de SEGA se unirán al creciente catálogo de adaptaciones de videojuegos de Netflix, que incluye: una serie de acción real de Assassin’s Creed; una película de acción real de Gears of War; series de animación basadas en Minecraft, Magic: The Gathering y Clash of Clans; un concurso basado en *Overcooked.”
